Field Restoration Project at Evans

We don't normally post, message or socially advertise from a singular perspective. However, in this case we feel it's completely fitting. This isn't just your normal news article or informational post. We feel as this one deserves quite a bit more and also some attention paid to it. The people behind it, they've definitely brought a warm feeling to our hearts. This wasn't something done in secret, however we wanted to bring it out once the proper foundation was laid to get this project off of the table with words and have processes kickoff.

We have many new members, then we have some that have been around for 14 years, some for over 20 now. We've seen this field come and go as the property has changed hands a multitude of times.  The field in question? Evans field. This field is sitting right behind Callen Field and was a dream for many board members of the past to have under our catalog of fields for the now and the future.  Chuck Braxton (rest his soul) was one of the first some of us had the honor to actually sit and listen to about the dream of having both Callen back with Vallejo Baseball and the field across from it.  We mean who wouldn't? Our teams would travel to many other cities and having a sports complex type of feel is the ultimate goal. In 2018 Lou Flores (President) and Bonnie Flores (Treasurer) also inked a deal with the previous owners. Unfortunately, nothing came from it. A pandemic, stay at home protocols, and many other situations we were all hit with. Baseball was the least important aspect of life at that point. Years have passed, regimes and board members come and gone and realistically; the league had just started to gain stronger legs.

In March of 2022, our President, Jason Davis and the Treasurer, Jennifer Davis both sent out an olive branch to the new property owners. They along with the property owners went back and forth respectfully about terms with the field and ultimately came to a deal that we hope will add some new life and longevity.

In 2023, we had some cleanup at the field but ultimately fell onto a busy season and having to rebuild the Vallejo Baseball brand. The good standing board members are all fantastic individuals that have ground the pavement to the best of their abilities. But Jennifer Davis had an ultimate push for the financial aspect. Where finance and funds were an issue, she saw a way and then came one of our fundraisers with DoubleGood popcorn. It was presented to the board and voted on unanimously and directly linked to the restoration of Evans field. Our baseball families earned  $12,827 in funds.

Early Pictures of Project Evans from 2024

Now here we are, July 3rd of 2024 and the President and the board members of VLLB are excited to share some more progress pictures and a call of action as we near the Summer / Fall Seasons.

So, Vallejo Little League would like to give a huge thanks to all of those that participated in the Fundraiser in 2023. Without all of you, the start wouldn't have been possible. For Morgan Fence for providing us with a backstop that is amazing. We have a couple more contributors but most importantly is the Local Construction group that chooses to remain anonymous.

While this is fantastic start, it's only just the beginning. Vallejo Little League / Vallejo Baseball is looking for partners, sponsors and donations however they may come. We have more to do to the field and have reached our initial fundraising totals. As of now, we are in danger of being over budget. We'd like to continue the project and the processes needed to make this a hell of a ballfield that will remain with the Vallejo Players and Families for the foreseeable future. To complete this project, our final steps are listed. Can you help us by sharing this on social media platforms? Would you like to sponsor an item to the right?  Any information is good information with this project, whether donors, investments, organizations, or volunteers.... please contact our treasurer at vallejolittleleaguetreasurer@gmail.com

Again, we thank you again for your support and we thank all of those that got the kickoff going with our previous fundraiser. We will update as things advance and the excitement is building!
